5.3 Waves & Electromagnetic Spectrum
Waves are, simply, energy transferring through a medium. You must know the characteristics of a wave and be able to distinguish the types of waves. Also, be sure to pay attention to the diagrams of the electromagnetic spectrum.
5.4 Atoms & Energy
When light and matter interact, the typical energy transfer (like a boat on the water) is not observed; instead something else is going on. Light is more than a wave. This is behind why hot metals glow, the line emission spectra observed with specific elements, and the photoelectric effect. This is, in fact, what provided overwhelming evidence for the particle nature of light (as discussed in class).
